This is your first video part, is that fair to say? How does it feel?

Oh yeah, it feels amazing. I was so grateful to have the opportunity to film and learn with everyone I got to ride with. It was something I’ve always dreamt about doing my entire life; to film a video part with all the snowboarders I had looked up to was the best experience. I remember sitting at the last Manboys movie premiere and I was like, “Man, I want to film a video part,” and to be able to do it two years later with some of those boys, it’s something that I can’t even put words on. I’m just so grateful to have the opportunity. It was amazing.

Manifesting destiny. After going through your first winter and seeing everything that goes into making a video happen, did it change your perspective on it at all?

One hundred per cent. It is a grind. It is a constant 24/7 thought process. I don’t think there was a day I didn’t think about snowboarding, the tricks for my part and spots to hit. And the grind of going out there building jumps every day, I gained a whole new level of respect for the process. A new level of respect for backcountry snowboarders. It’s a battle, but in the end, it’s all worth it, the final product that you can look at, be proud of, and have to share for years to come.

Did anyone give you advice or pass on knowledge you’re going to keep with you?

Yeah, there was lots. One was to always trust your gut feeling. Check your intuition. That’s one of the biggest, important ones. And I had never hit a stepdown in my life. Jody gave me some good advice about where to spot landings on stepdowns.

“Sean handled himself this year. I feel like he’s got a very good career ahead of him. Just because he’s super positive and a very good snowboarder. You put him on a feature, he’s going to get a shot. It was his first time filming, so we were kind of in the same boat. It was cool sharing that moment with him, and I know we’ll look back on it for a lot of years.”

Who impressed you out there?

Mikey Ciccarelli. I had the opportunity to snowboard a lot with Mikey in the park. This was our first year riding and filming together in the backcountry. His snowboarding blew my mind. He went into the season with such a heavy game plan and heavy motivation. And to see everything unfold for him is something special. I know that he is super stoked, and everyone’s going to be so stoked on his video part. What he did blew my mind.
