AFFORD TO BOARD @ MT. SEYMOUR

Saturday, February 3rd Mt. Seymour hosted the Afford to Board Rail Jam event that raised money and collected donated gear for the Youth Unlimited Charity. A huge success by any means, especially given that it was the first event that organizer Dan Rebstein has put together. He credits influences from locals like Nic Heringa that he grew up watching putting on fun events, and saying snowboarding has been such a positive impact on his life that it was natural to want to give back. Partnered with the charity group Mountain Life in East Van, an extension of Youth Unlimited, Dan and fellow boarders filled a full-size van to the brim with donations. Nice work!

The sponsors: Boardroom, Cariboo, Salmon Arms, Coastal Riders, Honey Doughnuts, and Mt Seymour all came together with some generous prizes for the top rail jam boarders. Best trick went to local Ray Bishop with a crowd-pleasing 450 manoeuvre and overall top honours went to a young buck named Kyle, dubbed TJ no. 2 from the peanut gallery. – Words and Photos, Rob Lemay
