BOARDERSTYLE 2017 @ FERNIE ALPINE RESORT

Fernie, BC. Gorgeous. Like, majestically, God must exist, fire up the postcard printer beautiful. Friday, during time trails for the Monster Boarderstyle in the sunshine, life was good. Then shit got biblical. Over 50 mm of rain fell during Saturday’s competition. As if racing the top-to-bottom gauntlet wasn’t challenge enough. It’s OK, though. Fun was had, money was claimed and life dried out when the sun rose the next day.

Helluva time here in Fernie. Peep the bullet point highlight reel and we hope to see you at the Whistler finals April 14th & 15th

- To say Katie Anderson won the women’s category would be an understatement. She was light years ahead in time trials and then left the field in the dust through every heat. She owned it.

- Flying Phil Fournier came to make money. Taking second place behind Charles Reid in SilverStar last weekend he put his eye on the prize and made bank with a legit bs 7 on the final jump. Best attitude, biggest smile. Phil is a champion in every way.

- Fernie loves Ferine. People showed up in numbers to support their local favourites. Everyone in the crowd had a horse in the race. Good times, rain or shine.

WHAT IS BOARDERSTYLE?

Boarderstyle: [also see: fast-freestyle] A hybrid boardercross, slopestyle, obstacle course race where 4 riders run the gauntlet simultaneously. A step-down jump awaits racers at the finish line. On this feature, it is mandatory to perform a full rotation trick (360 spin, flip, or greater). Riders will place in the order they cross the finish line. UNLESS! The rider placing behind performed a superior trick. Judged on difficulty, style, and execution. Judges then have the power to reverse the placing order of the riders in contention. Dreams will be shattered, glory will be stolen.
